Monica sticks up for the sticks!

7 April 2008 | Author: Daisy

Hey guys!

Hopefully you read my previous blog entry reporting on Monica Grenfell’s controversial article regarding plus-size Miss England entrant Chloe Marshall.

I’m pleased to report that over the weekend Monica herself has replied to my entry! View her reply here.

I’d like to begin by pointing out her comments unfortunately skim over many of the hard hitting points I took upon myself to discuss, and instead she focuses on how unfair Chloe Marshall’s recent fame is on the other Miss England contestants.

The biggest mistake she has made here is her inability to notice that it has been contributions such as her own, that have kept Chloe Marshall in the media spotlight. Like they say all press is good press. She must have known the sort of reaction she would receive by openly calling a size 16, 17 year-old fat, lazy and a liar!

She openly admits that Chloe’s fame has rooted from her body and size, and deems this as an unfair advantage against the other girls in the competition. This point is completely ridiculous Monica! Do you not think we as a society are to blame for this story being so big (excuse the pun!)? If the Miss England contest always awarded places to plus-size entrants, then Chloe Marshall’s position in this years competition would not be considered news worthy would it?!

Correct me if I’m wrong but for 80 years there has never been a plus-size winner of Miss England or Miss World! Why not? Are plus-size women ugly? Do they have less talent? Or do they just make you feel uncomfortable Ms Grenfell? Whatever it is you have against plus-size women you sure don’t have a good enough reason to viciously attack an innocent 17 year old girl! You should feel ashamed of yourself!

Tracey Says:

I really don’t understand why slim people have to be ’sticks’??! Most slim people are a good healthy size, I am a size 10-12 (with a good size bust!) and I’m slim now because I don’t overeat (anymore), I cook lovely healthy meals and I walk everywhere as much as I can. I don’t starve myself and I don’t have time to exercise every day, I’m just more aware of what and how much I’m eating and that’s all thanks to Monica Grenfell and her book ‘5 days to a flatter stomach’. I did this diet not just because I hated my fat belly but because I don’t want diabetes or heart disease in the future. Please, I really wish that overweight people would start thinking about their health - if we’re lucky enough to be born healthy then we should all do our best to stay healthy. It’s not about constantly dieting and getting as thin as you can - that’s not healthy either. It’s not Monica who should be ashamed of herself it’s the parents who let their kids get fat by feeding them too much rubbish food and ourselves if we don’t respect the amazing bodies we were born with!
